Some spells deal Light damage which deals double damage to undead minions and Liches.

On the fifth turn, an extra-large star which deals 50 damage (and blows up really, really big), will land exactly where it was aimed. These stars can be easily deflected by English Summer or Blizzard clouds, or Shields.|

Note: You can still be flashed normally if you do not have any Protection shield (anymore).
The familiar for the complete Overlight book is the Cherub. Each time it is charged, it allows the player to gain 1 health worth of shield (similar to the Protection Shield spell) per turn, up to 5 hp of shield per turn when charged to Level 5, to a maximum of 50 hp worth of shields. No shielding beyond 50 will be added by the cherub.
